WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE JOINING CAMPUS

Joining campus some years ago, was a dream come true . I knew this is a place where I  will sail through without any waves on the way .Exams will be easy, there will be late nights and late mornings , no punishment for attending class late or not attending at all , my future husband will be here , traveling will be my thing and talking about finances that  will not be my problem since the government and my parents will sort me out ,my focus will be to be happy and enjoy life to the fullest . Apart from all this I knew this was the place to be independent ,test my adulthood and develop into a lady of substances. This might be some of your goals but not all are realistic lets explore.

Exams

There is nothing like shortcuts if you want to perform  you have to put in the efforts .unlike high school exams, once you are done with one unit in campus you will never be tested on it again but having the knowledge of that unit will come in handy .The first time we did our exams I was clueless, I had to cram  .In that period I  attended  a group discussion  to my surprise everyone was answering the questions except me.it was like a foreign language to my ears ,I felt dump and a joker .due to the invisible pressure I did not grasp  anything ,that was my first and last day of group discussion .Later I realize that if  you be attentive in class and use revision papers you will achieve better results .If its a must you do group discussions choose your members wisely .Lucky enough I passed my exams .

Class attendance

In each unit we were  supposed to attend class three hours per week ,sometimes we could collaborate with the lecturers and adjust the time table where appropriate .Let it be known that am not an early riser so most classes that came early morning I did not attend most  unless we had a cat or exam, if I went  to class that early morning it happened  the lecturer was held up. My take on this is that if you can attend all the classes please do so ,near the exam period make sure you attend all the classes since is during this classes that you are guided on how to answer different questions.

Independence

At first 'sema kukula kwa hoteli'  after three days the money that I was to use for a week was no longer there .the next week I improved and started eating in school aka mess, I remember my friends complaining ;"I do not like how this kales look and taste ,they make me feel as if am in prison or rather in high school '.funny enough they would finish the meal  and the next day they would buy the same food . It  took me a while to know how to budget and plan my money ,there was a time a received some cash from my parents I was  to use it for two weeks ,after a week and two days I was low on cash and I was feeling embarrassed to ask for more, since it was enough to cover two weeks.

the next day  I was ten shillings  rich ,I woke up and made white porridge I bought a cake and took my breakfast .My roommates were like 'eish! how comes you are taking white porridge this is so  unlike you'. and I was like' I have missed taking white porridge', but deep down I know the reason .luckily my friend came took me to nice  restaurant we had lunch he also offered to buy me supper , fortunately early next day I received a wire from my parents. This was when I  started budgeting for my money . You know  money for emergency,  food , fun and buying new clothes or presents this was a good move since that day my life was smooth and joyous .

Travelling 

Do  you want to know a secret? I did bachelor of arts gender and development studies ,do you know why, because I was told that it was  very nice and it involved moving from place to place, doing capacity building and empowerment . Imagine moving from Turkana ,Mandera ,Migori  ,Kilifi to name a few this was what was in my head . Did I achieve this? absolutely no 😢😢every time we could plan to visit a place there was a reason preventing us from doing so but the course is nice .we had to plan with my friends how we can accomplish this. if you want to know more of our escapades comment below .

 My future husband

Joining campus this was one of my goals .I knew a husband material should be  a person who is like three years older than  you .we were told in high school that girls mature faster than  boys .in order to have long lasting relationship you should be married to an older guy. Any guy who could be interested in me I  would try to figure out his age before getting involved with him, If they were an  younger or agemates I would not look twice .I met this guy who was the supposed future husband I  knew him from high school  he was three years older than me, he was my perfect guy 😂.

We started dating he never called me babe or those sweet words .He called me  'wewe mambo' I  was so foreign in relationships so I thought it was normal .I remember the first day he called me 'beb '  I cried 🤣🤣🤣. To cut the long story short we separated after I realized he was dating, three other girls from our class  in high school, who were in the same university .Note there is Gold rush do not be in a hurry to be in a relationship take your time.  

 

In conclusion university is a place to be. You will meet people of different class  .race, character and through interaction you will  develop a strong unique character .at some point in your journey you will be faced with  challenges such as theft ,hunger ,losing friends and also conformity. Do not worry because after everything you will be more strong and responsible after all God gives someone what he knows you can tackle or overcome .there is a time the university allows one to change courses  you should be on the lookout for such opportunities. if you need some extra cash apply for HELB   loans ,we have needy kitty in campus and also bursaries .Join more clubs so that you can visit as many places as possible. Always have fun fun and fun remember we only live once and this is the chance to experiment on all the ideas you might have ;start a YouTube channel If you can or start a hustle. it can be as simple as selling watches ,sweets or chocolates .Lastly remember to pray and act with caution .
